"Captured Memories" is a Main Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Overview

When Link returns to Kakariko Village after repairing his Sheikah Slate at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, Impa will ask to see the repairs.[2] She recognizes the Pictures in the Album as those taken by Princess Zelda 100 years ago.[3] She suggests that, if Link visits the locations depicted in the Pictures, he may be able to recover some of his Memories.[4] She asks that he try to find at least one of these places before returning to her House, as she wants to give him something.[5] With this, the Main Quest begins.

Link's Memories can be recovered at the following locations:

Memory Location
Subdued Ceremony Sacred Ground Ruins
Resolve and Grief Southwest of the Kolomo Garrison Ruins
Zelda's Resentment Ancient Columns
Blades of the Yiga Kara Kara Bazaar
A Premonition Northeast path from Woodland Stable
Silent Princess Northeast from the Royal Ancient Lab Ruins
Shelter from the Storm West from the Deya Village Ruins
Father and Daughter Between Zelda's study and room in Hyrule Castle
Slumbering Power Spring of Power
To Mount Lanayru Sanidin Park Ruins
Return of Calamity Ganon Lanayru Road - East Gate
Despair Northeast from the Bottomless Swamp

After Link has reclaimed at least one Memory, Impa will be able to tell that he is beginning to remember certain things.[6] Before she can forget to do so, she gives Link his Champion's Tunic,[7] which she kept safe by Zelda's request.[8] Impa explains that the Tunic was made for him when he became a Champion.[9]

As Link travels throughout Hyrule Kingdom, he can find more of his Memories. After completing "Find the Fairy Fountain", Link can encounter Pikango at certain Stables and towns, where he can give hints to the locations shown in the Pictures.

Once Link has recovered all of his Memories from the Album, he must then return to Kakariko Village to tell Impa.[22] She is initially shocked to hear that Link has managed to visit all twelve locations so quickly,[23] but she then decides it is time to reveal the location of the final Memory.[24] As Impa stands, she reveals that Princess Zelda instructed her to wait to show the Final Picture, which is hanging on the wall of her House.[25] She asks Link if the Picture is familiar to him, revealing that the location is only half a day away from Kakariko Village.[26] She sends him out to recover his final Memory.[27] The Final Picture depicts a scene in Ash Swamp, filled with deactivated Guardian Stalkers. When Link finds this location, he will be able to claim his final Recovered Memory: "Zelda's Awakening". After recalling the Memory, Link will hear the voice of Princess Zelda calling out to him.[28] She states that he has recovered all of his memories of herself and the Champions from 100 years ago,[29] and she is now waiting for him inside Hyrule Castle.[30] He is now ready to defeat Calamity Ganon.[31] With this, the Main Quest ends.

  10. "Hmm... This picture shows Hyrule Castle in the distance. They say there used to be a stage where knighting ceremonies were performed, just south of Hyrule Castle. It's in ruins now, but...I'm pretty certain that's what's in this picture." — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  11. "Hmm... That's Lake Kolomo, isn't it? It's an oddly shaped lake west of here. There's a forest on the west side of it. Yes, I can see some trees here as well. It must be over there." — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  12. "Ah, these are...the ancient columns. If you cross the Tabantha Great Bridge over there, there's a large cliff to the south. The ruins are atop that cliff." — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)

  14. "Hmm... I can see Hyrule Castle and the Great Hyrule Forest, which neighbors it to the north. Looking down on the Great Hyrule Forest from the southeast, you can see scenery like this." — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  15. "Ah... Here you can see Hyrule Castle in the distance. So this must be north of the castle. The south side of the castle is where Castle Town used to be, but I don't see any buildings here, which means... Yes, indeed, I'd say this is likely on the north side, across the castle moat. It should be southeast of this stable." — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  16. "Hmm... Ah, these two tiny stone statues depicted here...and that faint view of the Bridge of Hylia in the distance... From this angle, I think perhaps this is the northeast short of Lake Hylia. Possibly Scout's Hill or perhaps a little further east of there." — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  17. "Hm? Oh, yes, this is Hyrule Castle. It appears to be a view of it from before the Great Calamity. Rather than the castle, it focuses on the surrounding cloisters. What a fascinating composition for a picture..." — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  18. "Hmm... I know I've seen that spring and that Goddess Statue before... There was a place like this at the ruins in North Akkala Valley, to the west of here." — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  19. "Oh! That horse statue! This is at the Sanidin Park Ruins. Yes, there are some park ruins on Safula Hill to the northwest of here. You'll find this horse statue there." — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  20. "A large gate wuth a snowy mountain beyond it... Oh, I know that place! There is a big mountain east of this village... It's called Mount Lanayru. At the base of Mount Lanayru, on the west side of Naydra Snowfield, lies that gate. I'm almost certain!" — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  21. "That forest... I get the feeling I've seen it before. I can't say for certain, but I believe this may depict the forest just south of here. No... Wait... Maybe it's the forest on the other side of the river, northeast of the Bottomless Swamp?" — Pikango (Breath of the Wild)
  22. "Well, well. You've returned. What is it?" — Impa (Breath of the Wild)
  23. "No... All twelve pictures already? You've visited every place?!" — Impa (Breath of the Wild)
