As their name suggests, they are monsters that look quite similar to candles, and appear to be made of wax, with a small wick on top of their bodies. They are immune to almost all weapons, except when it comes to fire. When lit on fire by using an Ember Seed, a Kyandokyan will begin to run around wildly until it explodes. It is best for Link to hide behind an object or use the Cane of Somaria to create a barrier once the creature is lit. They move in diagonal patterns, and their behavior is similar to Bob-ombs in later games, and Bombites in LA.

Biography

Services

The banker is seated on his desk in front of the bank vault. He is able to recognize clients by stamping them with invisible ink.[1] The banker is somehow able to keep track of Link's balance even after he plays the Song of Time and returns to the beginning of the first day.[2]

He awards people with gifts based on how much they deposit:[3] an Adult Wallet at 200 Rupees, a 5-Rupee interest at 1,000, and finally a Piece of Heart at the 5,000 cap.[4][5] Indeed, he stops taking deposits if 5,000 or more Rupees are in the account. This limit can be exploited to allow a balance of up to 5,499 Rupees (4,999 plus a 500 deposit). The banker charges 4 Rupees for withdrawing at night.[6]

The banker remains at his post until the end of the Final Day in spite of Termina's impending doom. He applauds Link for staying behind as well.[7] If the hero requests a withdrawal on the Final Day, the banker tells Link not to believe the rumors about the falling Moon before proceeding.[8]

Personality

The banker is outspoken. He often makes impertinent comments during transactions.[9][10][11] If Link attempts to overdraw his account, the banker rudely tells him to "do the math."[12] When Link exceeds the deposit limit, the banker makes a discriminatory (albeit positive) remark about his age.[13] He also remarks sarcastically when Link makes a small deposit.[14] He calls the young hero "little guy" rather than by name.

Due to his stamping system, the banker recognizes Link in all his forms. Thus, unlike other ageist Terminians such as the guards, he does not speak to Link's forms differently - he calls the hero "little guy" even when speaking to Zora or Goron Link.

Hyrulean Counterpart

The banker is the Terminian counterpart of the otherwise unnamed {} in Ocarina of Time. He is oddly desperate to buy bottled items.[15] He can be found in Hyrule Castle Town when Link is a child, and Kakariko Village seven years later. He will pay 50 Rupees for a bottle of bugs, 100 Rupees for a Fish, and 150 Rupees for Blue Fire.

Link cannot sell him Poe Souls, Potions, Lon Lon Milk, or bottled Fairies. However, there is unused text in the game's code that shows he would have paid 25 Rupees for a Fairy.[16]
