===Overview===

[[File:Ancient Sky Book Icon.png|left]]
  +
The Ancient Sky Book is a book written in the Sky Language and the key to restore power to the [[Dominion Rod]] and reach the [[City in the Sky]]. To achieve this, Link must find all six missing Sky Characters hidden beneath the [[Owl Statue]]s scattered across the [[Hyrule]] overworld. Link obtains this book from [[Impaz]], the old woman who lives in the [[Hidden Village]], after showing her the deactivated Dominion Rod.

===Sky Characters===
So how do you like, what i've done with the Link to the Past translations page so far? [[The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Translations]] And another question: Do you think it would make sense to include the translations with the other listings like items, characters, dungeons, glitches etc on the respective page of the game? [[User:SkullJ|SkullJ]] 22:42, 3 January 2012 (EST)

  +
A '''Sky Character'''<ref>{{cite|You found one Sky character! A missing part of the word in the Ancient Sky Book has been restored|N/A|TP}}</ref> is a [[Symbols|symbol]] that makes up the written language of '''Sky Writing''',<ref>{{cite|This, too, was in my father's notes... It is called Sky Writing, I believe.|Shad|TP}}</ref><ref>{{cite|This book is written in the ancient language of Sky Writing.|Impaz|TP}}</ref> which forms the basis of the ancient language of the [[Oocca]]. [[Shad]] is likely the only [[Hylian]] still able to read this language, which is written in the Ancient Sky Book; indeed, he is the only one who can help Link with the matter.

  +
After Shad restores power to the Dominion Rod, Link must then find six Owl Statues scattered across Hyrule and add the Sky Characters hidden beneath them to the Ancient Sky Book, so that he can find the [[Sky Cannon]] and gain access to the City in the Sky.
:Wow, looking good! And yes, we usually include translations in the listings, I'll go ahead and add the ALTTP one. We've only started adding them lately because up until recently they really sucked. :P {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 07:37, 4 January 2012 (EST)

==Trivia==
::After being active after quite a break I have yet another question, this time concerning translations for Zelda I and II: I own the original NES games including the manuals. Here comes my problem. Shall I include the German translations from the manuals, as the game itself wasn't translated to German, but instead sold with English language. Usually I would do this, but I somewhere heared that the manuals are sometimes not taken as canon. [[User:SkullJ|SkullJ]] 21:19, 25 February 2012 (EST)

  +
*The [[Symbols|symbol]] on the cover of the Ancient Sky Book is similar to the symbol that is on [[Goddess Pearls#Farore's Pearl|Farore's Pearl]] from {{TWW}} and also is the symbol for the [[Tune of Echoes]] on the {{OOA}}. The latch also resembles a [[Clawshot]] target.

:::Yeah, I don't think there's a problem. I'm 99.9% sure Zelda I and II have been translated to German since their several re-releases. The only problem is if the new translation varies from the original manual. But hey, it's certainly better than nothing. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 07:09, 28 February 2012 (EST)

::::As I also own the GBA re-release I'm completely certain that no official German tanslation of the game itself exists, as the Wiii virtual console release merely is a port of the NES version. But the one thing I can say is that the manuals of the GBA and NES version have some things different translated. So when I start adding the German translations from both manuals to the translatons page I will definetely need to include two translations. [[User:SkullJ|SkullJ]] 18:01, 28 February 2012 (EST)

::::::After many researching I'm 100% sure that the Spanish translation of the game you meant originated from the GBA-remake of ALttP, not the virtual console release, I'm also certain after checking out my cartridges of Zelda I & II again, that they are not with German screentext and also after watching videos of the Wii virtual-console release of the game they aren't having German text either, same goes for the version I have for the 3DS ambassador-programm. So only the manuals are reliable source in this case. [[User:SkullJ|SkullJ]] 13:43, 25 June 2012 (EDT)

::::::::G'day mate and congrats for becoming an admin! If anyone deservd it for his dedication it would be you! But the point for writing under this section is the rumor that you got your hands on some European text-dump of ST, (which would also contain the German and Italian translations, right?), which might be of help for me to work on the respective translations pages. So I wanted to ask if you could somehow share it with me. :) [[User:SkullJ|SkullJ]] 18:53, 31 July 2012 (EDT)

:Absolutely! Here's a ZIP with all the languages https://dl.dropbox.com/u/24777801/Spirit%20Tracks%20Text%20Dump.zip. Haven't been able to put them all into a table yet, though. :(

== Image error ==

I made a slight mistake while uploading an image on the [[Spiral Charge]] article. For some reason, I got confused between the Loftwing's ability to do a spiral charge, and the similiar ability Link has after obtaining the Dragon Scale. So I uploaded and image of Link underwater rather than flying... Is there a way to delete this mistake??

:The image has already been removed from the article, and the file itself can be moved to a new name that better reflects its contents. If you go to the page for the image file, you'll see that someone has already proposed a move to another name.--[[User:Osteoderm Jacket|Osteoderm Jacket]] 18:45, 16 January 2012 (EST)

== Palace of Darkness not being darkness-themed ==

This is a response to your comment accompanying your recent edit to the [[Darkness]] page. I took the [[Palace of Darkness]] off the [[Shadow Dungeon]] page because despite its name its actual contents are more or less generic and don't fit any particular element. It contains a few undead enemies (Stalfos), but so do most other dungeons in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past|A Link to the Past]]''. Likewise, it has a few dark rooms, but so do many other dungeons not regarded as having this theme. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure simply having physical darkness present is considered grounds for inclusion in the shadow elemental category. Since the Darkness article, on the other hand, seems to address physical darkness as well, it could perhaps continue to be listed here, even if it isn't listed as a shadow dungeon.--[[User:Osteoderm Jacket|Osteoderm Jacket]] 11:26, 18 January 2012 (EST)

:There's no one stopping you from adding it back in if you really think it should be there. Personally I don't see why it should be on the Shadow Element page if the dungeon doesn't qualify as a Shadow Dungeon, but, like I said... {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 19:54, 18 January 2012 (EST)

::I ''don't'' think it should be there. I thought you did.--[[User:Osteoderm Jacket|Osteoderm Jacket]] 20:01, 18 January 2012 (EST)

:::Oh, I see. To clarify, if I did want it there, I wouldn't have removed it in the first place. But I took your word for it, so you didn't really need to explain yourself. :P {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 20:04, 18 January 2012 (EST)

== Splitting multi-dungeon articles ==

I was never clear whether we really decided for sure to split the multi-dungeon articles like [[Earth Temple]]. Are we definitely doing that? I'm ready to start splitting them any time, but it looked like the conversation just sort of died.--[[User:Osteoderm Jacket|Osteoderm Jacket]] 22:58, 22 January 2012 (EST)

:As far as I'm concerned the discussion is still underway. Yeah, there's probably enough support to implement the policy right now, but this is a pretty big change so I really want to have as many people as possible weigh in before pushing it through.

:What I'm afraid of is, if we push it through too soon, people who didn't vote will suddenly pop up and say "Hey! We didn't agree to this!" which might start a whole discussion possibly ending in the policy being removed. If we get as many people as possible to weigh in NOW and settle it NOW, we won't have to worry as much about those kinds of problems in the future, which means there's a better chance the policy will stick.

:So I'd like to wait a few more weeks before we call the matter settled. I'll try to get an admin to make an announcement for it. Don't worry, I want this thing to happen as much as you do. You just have to understand these things aren't sprints, they're marathons. :P {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 07:06, 23 January 2012 (EST)

::That's fine. I just thought I'd ask since some other admins in the discussion were talking as if the changes could be implemented in a matter of days. I don't have a problem waiting a few weeks, though.--[[User:Osteoderm Jacket|Osteoderm Jacket]] 10:12, 23 January 2012 (EST)

== Awesome work on the new Soldier page! ==

Just wanted to say that! I appreciate how much work it is, the enemy page was a nightmare with all the variations, and the Castle Guard page was such a mess it made me want to run a mile. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 19:44, 4 February 2012 (EST)

:Ahaha, well, thanks, I appreciate that! As soon as you brought up the soldier thing on the talk page I knew I wanted to be a part of remaking it. Hooray for teamwork! {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 08:31, 5 February 2012 (EST)

== Oh look, its me again. ==

I require a bit of help, since I seem to have ran into a silly edit war. Please refer to [[Bosses in A Link to the Past]] and my talk page. Itachou insists on changing the page, despite the fact that...

A: No other boss pages use a mix of art and sprites in the same section. Because, well, it looks bad.

B: Most of that art is only semi-official, from guides or from the Zelda Barcode Battler.

C: Mentioning Armos Knights, Lanmolas and Moldorm as mini-bosses is redundant as they already appear as bosses earlier in the game, and is not something that we do on any of the other boss pages.

I undid his edits, and he refuses to discuss with me before putting it all back how he wants it to be, and claims that I am now the one starting an edit war. Can you step in somehow, or maybe I should ask an admin? I'm sorry to bother you, its just very irritating. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 12:49, 5 February 2012 (EST)

:I guess I came a little late, didn't I? Ah well. Hopefully everything will be sorted out now. Itachou did kind of jump down your throat on that one, but to be entirely fair, you never did actually talk to him about it. Edit summaries are usually enough for first reversions, but if you have to do it a second time it's a very good idea to leave them a little message explaining why, so you can discuss it in as friendly a manner as possible.

:Anyway, what's done is done. The only thing we can do is learn from it and move on. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 19:18, 5 February 2012 (EST)

::I thought I left a message during the edit revision itself for why I reverted it, and would of been happy to discuss it, but he only left a message on my page immediately while reverting it back. I replied, but he didn't respond, so I reverted it again and adjusted it slightly so Agahnim was listed twice like he wanted, but he did the same thing a second time. Maybe I jumped the gun to start with, for which I apologise (it came up while I was working on some other pages and it felt like a pain so I just zapped it back, it almost felt like vandalism since it was just unlike any other boss page), but it did bother me, I maybe should of acted less rashy to begin with, maybe made things worse. Again, I apologise for that, won't happen again. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 08:31, 6 February 2012 (EST)

:::It's really no big deal. Usually, it's up to the person to come to you to ask questions about your reversion. But if they don't do that and just undo the reversion right away, and you undo that, then it's up to you to go to them and try to reason with them. If you don't, they might just think you're being obstinate, revert it back, and get angry at you. And that's pretty much exactly what happened with you and Itachou. So that's why it's a good idea to go talk to the person after you revert their edit a second time, so you can prevent unpleasant experiences like the one you just experienced. But really, there was no way you could have known that, so no worries. Now you do know :)

:::I hope that all made sense :/{{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 16:48, 6 February 2012 (EST)

== Me AGAIN ==

I just noticed you edited [[Ambi's Palace]] with the Japanese name per the Japanese guide. Do you have access to this guide? Or the Oracle of Seasons one? Feeling a bit stupid if you do now, because I actually ordered both of them recently, haha. Welcome back from your break by the way! {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 21:13, 20 March 2012 (EDT)

:Haha, I had a feeling you would ask. No, I just managed to get a few crappy pictures off an Ebay listing. Ambi's Palace was the only location I could make out.

:Wow, you actually ordered them? Now ''that's'' dedication! :P And thanks! {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 06:57, 21 March 2012 (EDT)

::You know why? Because it's been bugging me for YEARS whether that boss in Dancing Dragon Dungeon is really Agahnim or not, I want definitive proof. And the names of those candle and magnet enemies. Also they were both fairly cheap, haha! I loved the Oracle games, massively underrated, and I like having Japanese stuff. I have Hyrule Historia after all. Once they arrive, feel free to ask me whatever! {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 08:22, 21 March 2012 (EDT)

== RE: Zelda in MM? ==

Okay. It's a Cheat Code we can use on Project64. By activating it, Princess Zelda will appear in Clock Town. You can see it [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xeg9_2q1QU here]. I made a screenshot then extracted Princess Zelda's model from it. It was hard to do it. I can't believe I made a screenshot when it was the [[Third Day]]. I believe you know about Project64, right?--[[User:Prince Ludwig|Prince Ludwig]] 19:07, 25 March 2012 (EDT)

:By the way, we can't say she just appear in a black and white flashback. Even Link appeared in that flash back. As for the size, [[Kafei]] even has the same size as [[Link]] in ''Majora's Mask''. He is bigger than [[Zelda]] from ''Ocarina of Time''.[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3FEmOGjpKk] Thanks Hylian King. I'll keep trying to find more pictures like this. I'll remember about the talk page too.--[[User:Prince Ludwig|Prince Ludwig]] 20:49, 25 March 2012 (EDT)

== Pronunciations ==

While I don't care that much about Volvagia's name being pronounced incorrectly, the pronunciation used on Agahnim's page is impossible (not to mention unsourced.) Therefore, I replaced it with the Japanese pronunciation. [[User:Tharthan|Tharthan]] 12:57, 6 April 2012 (EDT)

== Deppenleerzeichen ==

Translated it could be something like "moron spaces". E.g. in German it's "Schifffahrt" (shipping/navy/navigation; made of Schiff=ship/boat and Fahrt=ride/tour/journey/speed) and not "Schiff Fahrt". "Schiff Fahrt" would more be like a boat called "Fahrt". E.g. in LA "Windfisch Ei" would be a windfish called Ei and not an egg of a windfish. As english compounds usually are made with spaces between word parts there usually aren't moron spaces resp. they aren't that common. Another example - not in Zelda - would be like "John Sinclair-Hörspiel" (John Sinclair is a fictional ghost hunter and Hörspiel means audio drama). That would imply that Mr. Sinclair married a girl, whos surname was Hörspiel, and took the name Sinclair-Hörspiel. What's meant would be like "John-Sinclair-Hörspiel", a John Sinclair audio drama. Maybe that was different in history, but well, that's history. Just in case if you wanted to know. --[[User:Bernd|Bernd]] 17:00, 6 May 2012 (EDT)

:Ah, I see. Very interesting! {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 20:24, 6 May 2012 (EDT)

== I appear here a lot! A quick question... ==

Did you ever manage to ask Matt where the Boe artworks were from? I'm tempted to zap them since I haven't been able to find a source. There's also artwork of a Real Bombchu that I have no idea where it came from that I'm tempted to mark for removal, too. Thanks, and thanks again for helping me out with stuff all the time here, I appreciate it. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 16:17, 2 July 2012 (EDT)

:Hey man, no problem. It's what we're here for. And besides, now that you have all those Japanese guides you might have to return the favor some day. :P And yeah, I'm 99% sure I asked him a while ago, but either he didn't give me the answer I was looking for or didn't answer me at all, because I can't remember for the life of me. I'll ask him again if I see him in the Skype chat (which you should consider joining, by the way. Much more convenient that communicating this way). But that might not happen for a while; he's been around a lot less often since he left for ZD.

:It's a shame, because without those pictures we won't have any good images for the Boes. But I guess if they're not official they can't really be considered good... We can definitely get rid of that Real Bombchu pic, though. It doesn't look official at all. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 20:17, 2 July 2012 (EDT)

::He left for ZD? Not sure why people have such tribal differences in the Zelda fandom. I know this place is tied to ZU but I don't really care for that connection. It's part of the Nintendo wikis and thus I'm happy to work on it. Maybe it's because people always argue about whatever game is best? I don't care for all that (because everyone KNOWS it's ALttP, ha), I just enjoy the games for what they are.

::Anyway, I think those Boe pics are not official at all, especially when I look at their history. They seem to have been edited quite a lot. I don't think they're better than the screenshots we have anyway, they look pretty thrown together and not even representative of the actual enemies (did they get infected by angry Kirby eyes?). Besides, if there was official art of Boes, why the hell is there no official art for other enemies in Majora's Mask who could actually deserve it? Nah, it's either fan made or something NoA threw together in an evening for an old website somewhere. Sensing the same with the Real Bombchu pic. I will do a quick Wayback Machine just to be check that theory and see what pops up, but I suspect I'll find nothing.

::It's hard to find time for Skype but I'll try and give it a go sometime. I'm not really part of the "fandom" anymore, I am just a fan. With a head full of useless Zelda facts!

::Oh, anything you wanted to know from those Oracle guides? I've got them lying around here. I can even scan a section or two if you need anything specific. Just ask! {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 10:49, 3 July 2012 (EDT)

:::More than anything else the Skype chat is for convenience and for discussing things more informally with the other members of the wiki. Unlike here, you can get off-topic without fear of wasting space. :P As for what you first said, the idea is that ZW is supposed to tie together the whole Zelda community and the different Zelda sites. We are the sum of its parts, or whatever. As for what happened with ZD and Matt, it's a little more complicated than that. I don't know the whole story and frankly I don't care.

:::Anyway, thanks for the offer. I don't need it right now but I'll be sure to let you know if I think of something. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 11:45, 3 July 2012 (EDT)

I'm making an info box on my page, but I can't figure out how to change the parts that are super light blue to the color of the Zelda wiki background (Like on the side, where the logo for the site is). I've seen a code that changes it to pink, but I need one for the dark blue. Also, if you know where I should be asking these questions, can you direct me there? I don't think you want your talk page flooded with questions. Thanks in advance! [[User:Itsameluigi1290|TriforceSlash]] 13:43, 9 July 2012 (EDT)

:Haha, that's alright, I don't mind. But for future reference, these kinds of questions should be brought to the [[Zelda Wiki:Milk Bar|Milk Bar]]. Before asking a question or making a request, though, you should make sure it isn't already covered in our [[Help:Contents|Help Guide]].

Hi, I read while ago your comment about of not uploading photos that were already in the wiki or to give them a proper name, just wanted to say that, thanks for the advice :) I'll take it in count and thanks for the encouragement! Finding good zeldas images are difficult! By the way, I've found this: http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs32/f/2008/191/c/6/TLoZ_wallpaper____SPOILER_by_isamisa.jpg Should we add it on the wiki? --[[User:Isamisa|Isamisa]] 19:31, 5 August 2012 (EDT)

:Indeed they are!

:Is that fan art? If not, then by all means, go for it. If it's unofficial, then it shouldn't be added to mainspace pages, pretty as it is. However, you're welcome to upload it anyway and use it on your userpage... {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 09:41, 6 August 2012 (EDT)

I don't know if it's a fanart or not, but anyway, thanks for the answer :) --[[User:Isamisa|Isamisa]] 09:45, 6 August 2012 (EDT)

:Any time :) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 09:52, 6 August 2012 (EDT)

== Out of Order Alphabet ==

Hey HK I brought this up to Dany36 but she hasn't responded so I thought I'd bring this to your attention as well on the Enemies of Skyward Sword list the entire R section is out of place appearing between D and F. Is there a way you could fix this? I'm guessing it's a coding error of some sort. --[[User:Shadow Reaper|Shadow Reaper]] 09:06, 9 August 2012 (EDT)

:To be fair, you only messaged Dany yesterday. People can be busy with other things and you didn't really give her much of a chance to respond. :P

:But yeah, we're aware of the problem and we're looking into it. :) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 09:15, 9 August 2012 (EDT)

== A question/request of sorts... ==

Since you're more tapped into the community than I am (and active in the Skype chat and whatnot) I was wondering if you could do me a favor, or perhaps you can help me yourself. Do you know anyone who owns the Link's Awakening DX Prima Guide? Specifically the DX one. As far as I know, it's the only guide for the DX game, unless you are aware of any others. I would like to confirm some English names for added stuff to the DX version. If you can locate someone who has it that would be perfect, I don't need scans, just someone who can relay information (although if they can scan a page or two that would be ideal as well). Thanks very much! No worries if you can't help either. I'm not sure if there is a place on the wiki to ask for help in this kind of thing... it would be nice if there was a sort of resource sharing hub. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 09:58, 17 August 2012 (EDT)

:I'll do what I can. I've tried looking for it online in the past but had no luck with that.

:Yeah, that would be nice... but illegal. As if that ever stopped anyone :P {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 11:36, 17 August 2012 (EDT)

::Well, not a literal resource sharing, just sort of... "I have such and such, so if you want info from this resource, ask me" for example. That said, I don't know how precious Nintendo is about it's old guide books that are out of print; they offered scans for ones for the original four Zelda games for free on Zelda.com way back. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 20:51, 17 August 2012 (EDT)

:::Alright, well I actually went ahead and bought the guide, so I'll let you know about those names in three to four weeks. Since it was one of the only English guides I didn't have at this point I thought what the heck, why not? {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 08:21, 18 August 2012 (EDT)

::::Oh, well heck! That's cool. Thank you, you really didn't have to. Hope it wasn't too pricy. Do you have a scanner? I wouldn't ask you to scan much if you did, just the relevant pages. Either way I'm going to be interrogating you on that when you get it, haha! Incidentally, I recently found a scan of the Japanese Link's Awakening DX guide and have even ordered the Japanese one for the original Game Boy release (which contains names for some obscure, unnamed characters), so if there's anything you want from those at any point, add those to the list of what I've got. I'm hopefully going to be quite well set on Japanese guides from a certain part of the timeline, it seems. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 14:38, 20 August 2012 (EDT)

:::::Meh, I've been lifeguarding all summer so I have more money than I know what to do with at the moment. It's no big deal. You didn't have to buy all those Japanese guides either :P Sadly my scanner doesn't seem to be working. Which makes no sense because it photocopies just fine >_> {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 14:54, 20 August 2012 (EDT)

::::::Japanese guides get! They're so shiny too. Link's Awakening one contains tons of names and stuff for plenty of things that I'm sure some of this will come in handy. Any joy on your end? Apologies for not locating the names of the trees yet, the Oracles guides aren't arranged in an easy way to locate information like that, unfortunately. I'd have to pick out the names from different parts of the guide, annoyingly. I'll give it a good peer soon though. Meanwhile, expect the Link's Awakening translations page to get a bump up soon. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 11:35, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

:NICE! The LADX guide should arrive sometime this week. And take your time with the trees. Since they do name the [[Scent Tree]] in-game, I pretty much know what all the other Japanese names are already; I just need to know if they're actually used. If not, they're just conjectural titles and not really worth mentioning. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 13:37, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

::So you received the guide? I can't get on Skype right now, but can I make some requests? Basically, names of anything that appears in the DX game: the new enemies in the Color Dungeon (I believe they're accurate already, but just for confirmation... also are all the other enemies named differently to normal or are they the same?), the name of the dungeon itself, the name given to the fairy at the end, if there is one, and the name of the guards of the dungeon (if capitalized, perhaps they're only described), the three bosses within (although I assume they're based on the Japanese names, given your recent edits) and the name of the photographer and the building he's in.

::Also, if you can't get scans for proof, photos would be nice to have, just for my own purposes, not that I don't trust you, because I do! Moreso that I can prove it in future if need be, you know? I'll try and catch you on Skype soon anyway.

::As for the validity of the names compared to Zelda.com... I mainly got the guide to confirm the names of the minor enemies (so they do come from an English and... official? Semi-official source?) but I do have some concerns about using the names for the bosses as opposed to the ones from Zelda.com. As BAD as Zelda.com is, it's possibly more "official" than a Prima guide... which is why I'm curious to how the guide deals with names for other things in the game and whether they match up with what we know already or not. Again, I'll bother you about this on Skype, but... just giving you warning in advance I guess, haha. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 20:05, 12 September 2012 (EDT)

:::Yeah, I'm kinda regretting moving Stone Hinox so quickly. Oh well, it's an easy fix if need be. I'll gather some photos and send them to you via Skype. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 20:39, 12 September 2012 (EDT)

== Whoa, hold up? ==

Can you like... Undelete that Gibdo picture please? That seemed unnecessarily swift. As far as I remember, it was better. The other might be sharper but it's pretty... gif-like. It looks rough. Plus the bigger one could be further improved. That was really unnecessary, especially without any discussion, or succession template, or anything. Someone went to the trouble of clearing the background for that image and you just zap it? Come on. Clarity and sharpness can be easily adjusted, something I was planning to do myself until you deleted it. Now I don't have the edited picture to work with. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 11:15, 24 August 2012 (EDT)

:Oops, looks like I've gotten a little trigger-happy lately. I admit to jumping the gun there, this is definitely something that needs to be discussed first. My mistake. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 11:26, 24 August 2012 (EDT)

::No problem! I've just been a bit busy at the moment so there are some loose ends I've left lying around. Sorry about that. {{:User:Fizzle/sig}} 21:25, 24 August 2012 (EDT)

== Yo King, I need some advice. ==

I, like, REALLY want to help contribute to this site, but most of the good stuff's already been uploaded and stuff. So, I'm a huge fan of trivia, and I was wondering if you knew a page or two that'd be good for me to work on? I really want to become an Auto confirmed user, but I don't want to do it cheaply. Thanks in advance! [[User:Itsameluigi1290|TriforceSlash]] 19:28, 7 September 2012 (EDT)

:Well clearly you have the right intentions, so that's a good start. :)

:I'm afraid you'll have to be a little more specific about what you're looking for, though. Saying you like trivia doesn't really tell me much, since that applies to just about anything. As a general rule, when looking for something to do on the wiki, [[:Category:Stubs]] and [[:Category:Articles needing attention]] are good places to start. If images are your thing, see [[:Category:Articles with image(s) requested]]. Any page that has the [[:File:No Image.png#filelinks|"No Image" file]] also needs images added to it. I assure you, there is still a LOT of good stuff that needs to be added around here.

:If you have any more questions about editing or anything else don't hesitate to message me again or any of the other [[Zelda Wiki:Staff|staff]]. It's what we're here for. :) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 21:43, 7 September 2012 (EDT)

==''Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition''==

I'm working on the game's article, and... could you add the game to the list of games you choose from when uploading a file? {{:User:NorskTW/sig}} 11:42, 15 September 2012 (EDT)

:It's not really worth it because only a few files on the wiki will be from that game. If you tag it as copyright and mention what game it's from in the summary that should be enough. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 11:45, 15 September 2012 (EDT)

::Ok thanks :D {{:User:NorskTW/sig}} 11:47, 15 September 2012 (EDT)

==Etiquette and/or Authority Question==

I've been making some significant edits to the layout of a [[recipes|page]] marked with this tag:

[[Template:Improve]]

The amount of information outside of one substantial table is low, so it almost qualifies as a stub, and the page definitely needs a few more icons uploaded, but that hasn't really been my focus. Anyhow, I think the page has been significantly improved and I hope my fellow wiki-users would agree. So my question (yes, this was leading somewhere after all!) is about removing the improve tag. Is there some procedure or etiquette that I would need to follow? Am I even empowered to remove this tag? I couldn't find this information anywhere.

Thanks a bunch. [[User:Agahnim&#39;s Shadow|Agahnim&#39;s Shadow]] 15:33, 27 September 2012 (EDT)

:You are welcome to remove the tag yourself if you feel like the article is sufficiently improved; you don't have to ask. Although if I were you I would put up the [[Template:Images]] notice, unless you plan on uploading the rest of the sprites in the near future.

:It's funny, because I remember asking the same question to an admin back when I was new around here haha. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 08:51, 28 September 2012 (EDT)

== Request ==

Congratulations Hylian King. Your manners are excellent. You may delete my account, because I cannot find a way to delete it myself. [[User:Gomess 512|Gomess 512]] 15:01, 29 September 2012 (EDT)

:Unfortunately, it isn't possible to delete wiki accounts. If you no longer wish to use your account, the only thing you can do is simply not log onto it. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 17:49, 29 September 2012 (EDT)

== Page Names ==

Hey Hylian King, I was just wondering how to change the name of a page, I created the page [[House by the Bay]], and on the wanted pages section, it still lists "House By The Bay" as wanted. I was just wondering so i could give it the proper capital letters to match it. :) [[User:TnTShank|TnTShank]] 21:58, 10 October 2012 (UTC)TnTShank

:The capitalization is actually correct as it is; the page was just incorrectly linked to in another article. It should be fixed now. But for the record, to change a page's title, you have to [[Help:Moving Pages|move the page]]. Unfortunately, you won't be able to do that just yet. Once you make 100 edits and your account is over two weeks old, you will automatically become an [[Zelda Wiki:Autoconfirmed users|autoconfirmed user]], at which point you'll be able to move pages, among other things. Having already created an entire page, though, I'd say you're off to a pretty good start. Keep it up and you'll be autoconfirmed in no time. :) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 22:37, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

::Okay awesome, thanks! [[User:TnTShank|TnTShank]] 00:26, 11 October 2012 (UTC)TnTShank

==Oracle Series Magic Rings==

Hey Hylian King! What's up?

I'm telling you this because I was just thinking that maybe I should get a second opinion before I do this.

I'm thinking of overhauling [[Magic Ring|this page]] in aspects more than one.<br>

The first aspect would be replacing all the images in this page with their png versions with the real colours. This also requires work on someone else's part who knows how to reduce the file size of transparent png images, because I don't, for which my uploaded files will be a little bigger than the desired sizes.<br>

The second aspect would be changing the descriptions of many rings because they are either wrong or written in a misleading way. While I'm at it, I'll also add to the description from the games when it seems fit.<br>

The third and last aspect would be changing the order in which rings are displayed by default right now to the numerical way in which they are ordered in the games.

Do you have anything to say about this? If all seems fine, I'll start work on it. {{:User:Max_12/sig}} 05:09, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

:Wow, that's quite the project! It sounds great. Were you planning on uploading the rings at a 3x scale, like they are now?

:Compressing PNGs is actually very simple. All I do is run them through [http://www.vbgore.com/PNG_Monster PNG Monster]: enter the location of the folder that contains the images to compress, check "Loop", and click "Run".

:And hey, if ever you need help with some of the descriptions or wanted to split the task for uploading all the rings, I'd gladly do that. But if you'd rather do this on your own, that's cool too. I'll leave you to your work. :) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 12:24, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

::Are 3x sizes preferred? If so, then I'll upload them at that size.

::Also, will using that cause ANY reduction in the quality of the images?

::I'll ask any time I think I cannot do it without help. {{:User:Max_12/sig}} 15:02, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

:::ZW doesn't have a strict policy on scaling sprites, so it comes down to personal preference. Personally, x3 seems to me like the best fit for the table, and that's what rings are currently scaled at. Plus, when the image itself is scaled x3 it's easy to resize it to x2 or even x1 when you need it; resizing a x2 image to x3 causes more quality loss.

:::And no to your second question. The compression is totally lossless. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 23:00, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

::::The work is complete. Thanks for the help. {{:User:Max_12/sig}} 13:50, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

:::::Any time, it's what we're here for. Congrats on a job well done. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 18:05, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

==Signature==

Hello, I wanted to thank you for helping me with my signature on my talk page and just wanted to ask you how do we add links to our signature? For example, on part of the letters in your signature lead to your talk page. I wanted to do that with my signature and can't figure out how. Also, how do we set different letters in our signature to be either different colors, fonts, or sizes? And thank you for helping me with my signature! :D {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 20:14, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

:It's the same code as linking to your normal userpage, the only difference is you're liking to User talk:Darkess instead of User:Darkness, and instead of "—Darkness" you put whatever you want to show as the link to your talk page (mine, for example, is a *, which shows up as a Triforce if you have the Triforce font downloaded).

:As you can see, the entire text in your signature (—Darkness) is between span tags that contain all the coding for font size and color and whatnot. If you want different coding for each letter, then you have to have span tags for each one. For example, [[User:Hylian King|<span style="color:red; font-size:20px;">t</span><span style="color:orange; font-size:19px;">h</span><span style="color:green; font-size:18px;">i</span><span style="color:yellow; font-size:17px;">s</span>]] is made with the following code:

<pre>[[User:Hylian King|<span style="color:red; font-size:20px;">t</span><span style="color:blue; font-size:19px;">h</span><span style="color:green; font-size:18px;">i</span><span style="color:yellow; font-size:17px;">s</span>]]</pre>

:Anyway, as this is all basic HTML I recommend giving our [[Help:HTML|HTML guide]] guide a read. Alternatively, you can always check the source code of any of the user signatures on the wiki to see how they're made (the source code is what you see in the text box when editing a page). {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 22:40, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 21:05, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

==Navigation bar==

Hello, I wanted to ask if it's possible to create a link on my Navigation bar that will send users to a page where they could email me. I've seen that on other user's Nav bars but didn't know what the link was. Sorry.

P.S. How do I know when I'm autoconfirmed? How many edits do I have left? {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 21:40, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

:That would be [[Special:EmailUser/Darkness]]. For future reference, if you see something you like on any userpage or template, try taking a look at the source code by clicking the "edit" button and see if you can find the code you want within the page.

:You automatically become [[Zelda Wiki:Autoconfirmed users|autoconfirmed]] when your account is over two weeks old and you've made at least 100 edits. This doesn't include edits in the "User" namespace (i.e. your userpage and all its subpages, including your sandbox, navbar and signature) because those can't really be considered contributions. I'm guessing you're probably autoconfirmed already, or at least very close. If you put [[Template:User Edit Extended]] on your page, you can see how many edits you've made in each namespace.

:P.S.: You don't have to be sorry. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 21:56, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

::Thanks a lot! I checked and apparently I am (autoconfirmed). The reason I edit my userpage so much is because I use as a type of sandbox, for templates and uploaded images. Actually, I do "edit" user pages to search for templates. And thanks again! {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 22:59, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

== Question ==

Is it possible to have my account deleted? I need it gone. [[User:ScottJoplin|ScottJoplin]] 04:05, 20 November 2012 (UTC)ScottJoplin

:I discovered that, fortunately, I didn't have to delete my account, so never mind. Sorry to bother you. [[User:ScottJoplin|ScottJoplin]] 04:48, 20 November 2012 (UTC)ScottJoplin

==Empty Pages==

Hi! I've been looking around the Wiki and, under the Templates namespace, I found a page called [[Template:Test]]. I noticed that it was empty, so I added the <nowiki>{{delete}}</nowiki> tag to the page. Then I found other empty pages, such as Template:T, and I was wondering if it's correct to add the <nowiki>{{delete}}</nowiki> tag to pages like this, or is that normal and I should just leave them alone?

And I have another question. I really want to become an admin, and I've noticed that countless users have asked how to become one on various user's talk pages. Most times an admin replies saying that the position is awarded, and also that it's suggested that the user is involved with the Zelda Wiki Skype chat before they are awarded that position. Is it possible to be '''''awarded''''' that position without using Skype? Thanks! {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 17:15, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

:As you may have guessed, those templates are for experimenting with coding and running tests for templates before actually implementing them. Just because these pages may not be needed at the moment doesn't mean they won't be needed later; there's not much point in deleting them if they're going to end up being recreated in the near future, and it's not like they're doing any harm sitting there empty in the meanwhile...

:A user will be promoted if they demonstrate through their edits (and, in the case of becoming [[Zelda Wiki:Staff|staff]], their ability to interact with other users) that they're capable of handling the extra responsibility. So no, I'd say the public chat has little to do with that. That said, there is a Skype chat specifically for staff which is very useful for communication; some things just aren't doable via talk pages. I suppose someone could be staff and not be in the staff chat. I don't think it's ever happened, though.

:A word of advice: don't worry about promotions. Just enjoy contributing, work on improving your editing skills and the rest will follow. =) {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 22:51, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

::Thank you so much! And another question relating to admins-can you please edit the [[<nowiki>Template:Admin</nowiki>|Admin Template]], as it has improper grammar and it is not shown. I can't edit it, as it has been blocked,but can you please edit it? {{:User:Darkness/sig}} 23:15, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

:::Sure thing! Did you mean [http://zeldawiki.org/index.php?title=Template%3AAdmin&action=historysubmit&diff=333629&oldid=318660 this]? I'm not seeing any other grammar mistakes... {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 23:37, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

:Haha not much. I'm a couple years older and that's about it. It's good to see you around man, get that warm fuzzy feeling when I see users from back when hanging around. Was thinking on leaving some kinda welcome back speech but I guess it's a little late for that now... Still, welcome back!

:So how 'bout you, you planning on sticking around? 'Cause if so we'll give ya patrolling rights back ASAP. Patrolling your edits feels... wrong. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 02:57, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

::lol maybe. No promises, as I am busy, but I suppose I could find the time to get on here every couple of days or so. For now, I'm wiki-ing from my computer at work. I'm basically a secretary, so I've got SOOOOO much free time here. Sad that I'm almost done with this (but it is paying for my classes, so whatever :P).

::It does feel kinda nice to be editing again. I may never be able to do it with the passion I once had, but I can still improve and whatnot. But first, I need to relearn all that wikicode x_x{{:User:Justin/sig}} 13:58, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

:::Clarification: Are you asking me if I want patrol rights back? Because if so, I wouldn't mind tackling backlogs like the good ole days. The only thing is that I'm never going to be able to manage being on every day, and I may be away for more than a week at a time. I guess I can still play a part, but it's just not going to be as constant as it used to be.{{:User:Justin/sig}} 16:43, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

::::That's all I needed to hear, consider it done. And hey, it's not like we're gonna give you hell for having other things to do. I mean, you were inactive for over a year before we decided to do anything. :P Do you still use the same Skype handle? {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 17:02, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

You give me about five minutes and I can pull up my login info. Can't do it on this computer, but luckily I work at an IT training center ;){{:User:Justin/sig}} 17:25, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

:I spoke too soon. My old login is gone for good. AIM mail is gone, and now it's AOL mail. Apparently they can't forward anything sent to @aim.com, either. New Skype name is hero_of_lylat, same as my Xbox gamertag except with underscores.{{:User:Justin/sig}} 17:38, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

== Autopatrol? ==

I noticed on [[User:SnorlaxMonster|SnorlaxMonster]]'s [[User talk:SnorlaxMonster#Autopatrol|talk page]] that you have granted him the [[Zelda Wiki:Autopatrol|autopatrol user right]]. Is autopatrol something that must be bestowed upon an account by an administrator, or is it something that would also be gained automatically after meeting a certain threshold? I'm not asking for the user right myself &mdash; I don't think the patrollers and administrators I've encountered would feel comfortable with me not having some sort of editorial oversight for the time being (perhaps I am mistaken?) &mdash; but I'm curious as to how it is enabled for users on Zelda Wiki. :It's awarded by the staff when most of us feel like the user is ready.

:As for your second question, let me just say that you're quite clearly a competent editor and we rarely, if ever, have any bones to pick with your contributions. I'll leave it at that. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 23:57, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Hey, so Mandi brought up a good point [[Zelda Wiki:Hyrule Castle#Just a though|here]] about our Featured Article and Image voting systems. I personally would like to see a change, but that just won't happen if no one says anything or voices their opinion. I'm asking you to please voice your opinion on changing the system so we can move forwards with proposing actual changes and actually GET somewhere with this. ==You do know...==

That our upload limit is back up to 20MB, right? Lysia fixed it like a week ago. In fact, I'm 90% sure you were online when she popped into the staff chat and said "Hey, this is done." Or you at least saw it. So why are you so surprised about being able to upload the monster files from SS? :P{{:User:Justin/sig}} 04:38, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

:Yeah, thing is back when I uploaded [[:File:Ghirahim.png|this]] the limit was 20MB, but it still gave a big ol' error. Even now, most of the monster SS files won't go through. I'll have to downsize them. :( {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 12:18, 8 December 2012 (UTC)

While I don't wish to be rude and repeatedly question you, I was wondering if we should change the canon status of the Skyward Sword manga to "ambiguously canon" now or leave it at "non-canon" until we have more info on the exact nature of the origin story involved. :I've responded on the Canon Policy page. To be honest, I hadn't replied earlier because I wasn't quite sure what to say. But after giving it a little thought I think I've made up my mind. Not that it means much, anyway. Policy changes require the input of more than just a couple users, which, unfortunately, doesn't seem likely at this point. {{:User:Hylian King/sig}} 23:23, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

== Jap. ==

Quote: "Please avoid using that particular abbreviation as it's considered a racial slur".<br />

"Jap" might be a "racial" slur [en.wp says similar; though it doesn't/shouldn't use "racial" and "racial" should/might be incorrect as Japanese shouldn't be a race, but together with Chinese etc. be part of the Asian race], but one used "Jap." (with a "." [and without any slur intention]).<br />

"Jap." is used as a normal shortening/abbreviation of "Japan"/"Japanese" [again without any slur intention], like "Eng." or "Engl." for "English" and like it's done in other languages [e.g. en.wikti mentions Swedish "jap." and "eng." ([http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/jap. 1], [http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/eng. 2]) and de.wikti mentions German "jap.", "eng."/"engl.", "lat." etc. ([http://de.wiktionary.org/wiki/englisch#Adjektiv 3], [http://de.wiktionary.org/wiki/japanisch 4], [http://de.wiktionary.org/wiki/lateinisch 5])].<br />

Furthermore accourding to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbreviation#Periods_.28full_stops.29_and_spaces en.wp] "Jap" shouldn't be an legit abbreviation, as e.g. "Professor" became "Prof." (with ".") and thus an legit abbreviation of "Japanese" would e.g. be "Jap.". "Jap" instead wouldn't/shouldn't be an abbreaviation but a new word (an insulting one) created by shortening "Japanese".<br />

These abbreviations like "Jap." might be new or uncommon in English, thus maybe are neologism, but aren't used by me in any article anyway and should still be understandable.<br />

Thus: I don't see any problem in using "Jap." [or "Eng." or "Ger." or "Lat.", at least when it should be clear, what it's supposed to mean]. -[[User:Bernd|Bernd]] 17:38, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

:The term has been around for over a hundred years, but it got a negative connotation during the events of World War II. Yes, it is a legitimate abbreviation, but some Japanese people do take offense from it, regardless of context, so it's best not to use it. There are better alternatives you can use, like "jp". {{:User:Abdullah/sig}} 19:28, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

[[File:Shad SkyBook.png|20x20px]] [[|]] The Ancient Sky Book is an item in Twilight Princess.

Location and Uses

Overview

The Ancient Sky Book is a book written in the Sky Language and the key to restore power to the Dominion Rod and reach the City in the Sky. To achieve this, Link must find all six missing Sky Characters hidden beneath the Owl Statues scattered across the Hyrule overworld. Link obtains this book from Impaz, the old woman who lives in the Hidden Village, after showing her the deactivated Dominion Rod.

Sky Characters

A Sky Character[1] is a symbol that makes up the written language of Sky Writing,[2][3] which forms the basis of the ancient language of the Oocca. Shad is likely the only Hylian still able to read this language, which is written in the Ancient Sky Book; indeed, he is the only one who can help Link with the matter.

After Shad restores power to the Dominion Rod, Link must then find six Owl Statues scattered across Hyrule and add the Sky Characters hidden beneath them to the Ancient Sky Book, so that he can find the Sky Cannon and gain access to the City in the Sky.
