Impaz is an old woman and the only remaining resident of the Hidden Village in Twilight Princess. As the last remaining resident, she cannot leave the village because of her duty to wait for the "messenger to the heavens" to give him the Ancient Sky Book. She claims that her name comes from the founder of the village.

Biography
spoiler

At some point, the Hidden Village was attacked and taken over by a group of Bulblins, and Impaz became a prisoner in her own house. When Ilia was kidnapped, she was taken to the village, where she befriended Impaz. Impaz helped Ilia escape from the Hidden Village, but stayed behind herself. As such, she did not know what had become of the girl until Link visited some time later. At first, she kept her door closed, thinking Link was a Bulblin. When Link frees the village of the Bulblins, she recognizes Link as the boy Ilia had told her so much about. Impaz was happy to hear that Ilia was safe and asked Link to return an item Ilia had failed to take with her.

Shortly after Ilia recovers her memory, Link goes to Impaz again for information of the Dominion Rod, based on some information Ilia gave him. Impaz is surprised and thrilled to see Link carrying the rod, as that meant that he was the "messenger to the heavens" and that she would finally be ably to fulfill the duty that bound her to the Hidden Village. She gives Link the Ancient Sky Book, remarking that the meeting with Ilia "must have been ordained by the gods." It is with this book that the Dominion Rod is eventually reactivated with the help of Shad.

Race
start

Impaz' race is never stated in the game, but it is heavily implied that she is a Sheikah. She has pointy ears and red eyes, characteristics of a Sheikah. She lives in the Hidden Village, which a sign identifies as "Old Kakariko", the village of the Sheikahs in Ocarina of Time. The (former) inhabitants of the village are described as a "tribe that protected and served the Royal Family of Hyrule" on several occasions. And finally, Impaz was the former owner of the Wooden Statue, which depicted the Sheikah eye-symbol.

Trivia
*Impaz is one of the many people Link will receive a letter from at some point during his quest.

*Impaz claims that her name comes from the founder of the village, but if the Hidden Village is an old predecessor to the modern Kakariko Village, this would have to be an unknown Impa, as the Impa from Ocarina of Time is only said to have opened the village to the public, not to have founded it.

*At one point in development, Impaz's character was to a be male and named Old Man Impa.
