The Beetle is an Item in Skyward Sword, as well as a badge item in Hyrule Warriors.[1][2]
Location and uses[]
Skyward Sword[]
The Beetle can be found inside the Skyview Temple after defeating a Stalfos in the central room located in the northern chamber. It is a small, flying, insect-like item that can be used to pick up distant objects such as Rupees or Hearts. The Beetle can also be used to sever the stems of Deku Babas, defeating them. Any item that the Beetle picks up will be returned to Link.
When Link uses the Beetle, the camera will follow behind it. The Beetle can then be steered by tilting the Wii Remote in the desired direction. If the item bumps into a wall or is hit by an enemy, it will be knocked down and return to Link. The Beetle flies for 30 seconds unless it flies too far away from Link, in which case the time will be cut short and the Beetle will return.
The Beetle can be upgraded to the Hook Beetle in the Lanayru Desert, adding a mandible that is able to carry items like Bombs and drop them onto enemies. The Quick Beetle, an optional upgrade available at the Scrap Shop in the Skyloft Bazaar, allows the Beetle to fly faster. The Tough Beetle, another optional upgrade, enables the Beetle to fly much farther than before.

Crossover appearances[]
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[]
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, the Beetle appears as an item. Once grabbed, it can be launched towards an opponent, grabbing and then flying upwards with them. If grabbed by the Beetle, the Circle Pad or L Stick must be shaken to set the Fighter free of its grasp. If attacked, it reverses its direction, returning to the Fighter who threw it. The Beetle also appears as a Trophy.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
The Beetle appears once again as an item in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When launched, Beetles will fly in a straight line, attempting to ensnare any fighters in its path. If they capture a Fighter, they will fly upwards and attempt to carry them offscreen. If Beetles encounter a ceiling while flying upwards, they will continue to fly up for a short time. If they cannot advance beyond the ceiling, they will fall to the ground, releasing any Fighter they captured and explode. Fighters can be knocked loose from a Beetle's grasp, though Beetles will continue to fly upwards as though they were carrying a Fighter. If Beetles are thrown at walls but do not come in contact with any Fighters, they will simply fall to the ground where they can be picked up and used again.
Trivia[]
- Bokoblins are afraid of the Beetle and will run away from it. Archer Bokoblins will attempt to shoot it at first sight.
- During development of Skyward Sword, a Rocket Punch was proposed for grabbing items. This idea led to the creation of the Beetle, which also launches from Link's wrist.[3]
- The Beetle cannot be used during the Horde Battle.
