Template:Boss The Evil Eagle is the eponymous boss of the Eagle's Tower and the minion of the Grim Creeper, the mini-boss of the same dungeon, in Link's Awakening.
Background
The villain who "pilots" the Evil Eagle is the Grim Creeper, who threatens Link with his life as he is climbing the tower to face the boss.[1] Shortly after the Grim Creeper's jeering, the Eagle flies in and the boss battle begins.
Strategy
Link can block most of the Evil Eagle's attacks using his Mirror Shield. Evil Eagle will fly back and forth across the screen at varying altitudes until Link hits him in the beak three times with any of the following weapons: the Hookshot, the Boomerang, the Bow, or the Magic Rod. After three hits Evil Eagle will hover to the side of the tower and either blow wind at Link and shooting little feathers (to combat this, Link should keep his shield up and walk towards the wind), or he will dive at him. If Link falls off the tower, he has to restart the entire battle. The Eagle is defeated with eight hits from the Hookshot and Boomerang, and six from the Bow.
The Magic Rod can be used to fight the Eagle, even though it is in Turtle Rock. However, Level 7 is not yet finished. Even so, all that is needed is the Shield L-2 (Mirror Shield) and the Frog's Song of Soul (Song 3) to get into Turtle Rock. Once the Shield is retrieved from Level 7, Level 8 is reachable and the Magic Rod obtainable. The Eagle goes down in three hits with the Magic Rod, and will not attack directly if it is used.
Once defeated, Grim Creeper will warn him that he is also in the Wind Fish's dream and will disappear if the Wind Fish is ever awakened.[2] Following this, both the Eagle and Grim Creeper will perish and Link will receive a Heart Container and the Organ of Evening Calm as a reward.
Trivia
- Evil Eagle's Japanese name, "Albatoss", is the same as the enemy that appears in Super Mario Bros. 2.
- The Twilit Carrier Kargarok from Twilight Princess bears similarities to Evil Eagle, both being giant birds controlled by masked riders.
- The Evil Eagle's tactic of knocking Link out of the arena to a lower area after which its health returns to maximum is similar to Moldorm as it appears in Template:ALTTP and Link's Awakening.
- As the Grim Creeper speaks for it, the Evil Eagle is the only dungeon boss in Link's Awakening that does not speak.
