This article is about the Royal Ancient Lab Ruins prior to its destruction in Breath of the Wild. For the Ancient Tech Labs operated by Purah and Robbie, see Akkala Ancient Tech Lab and Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.

The Ancient Research Institute,(BotW)[1] also known as the Ancient Tech Lab,(HWAoC)[2] is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

The Ancient Research Institute was a facility established for the sole purpose of researching Ancient Technology.[3] It was placed in proximity to Hyrule Castle, one of three known sources of Ancient Energy,[4] to remain under the control of the Royal Family of Hyrule.[5] After the thorough destruction of the Ancient Research Institute during the second Great Calamity, it was abandoned and became the Royal Ancient Lab Ruins. Robbie and Purah fled and formed their own individual Ancient Research Institutes in the two other known sources of Ancient Energy, the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab in Tumlea Heights and the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab in Hateno Village, respectively.

Other Appearances

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

The Ancient Tech Lab is seen in the "Road to the Ancient Lab" Scenario. Impa and Zelda, accompanied by Link, travel to the Ancient Tech Lab in order to request Purah and Robbie's aid in researching the newly-discovered Diminutive Guardian.[2] Through their research, Purah and Robbie learn that the Guardian acts as an amplifier for Ancient Technology.[citation needed]
