The mogma are a group of mole people in skyward sword. their notable features include short legs, snouts, and long, pointy ears. these traits also describe the zonai.
They aren't a perfect match, to be fair, but breeding with hylians and evolution in sunny sky islands, plus a bit of divine intervention, could produce zonai. another thing: the mogma are MOLES. this is why the zonai came down- after the sky cataclysm that led to their near extinction, they sought their relatives in the depths. they looked something like this:
The zonai decend, looking for their relatives for help, find hyrule instead, and colonize the depths with its zonanite and history for coloseums, mines, temples, and statues of the four great races, and their long extinct deep relatives. this is probably also why there is a korok in the games- after colonizing the depths and building everything, they explored and found a way to Korok Forest.
