The Hyrule Castle Town Ruins are a location in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Features and Overview[]

The Hyrule Castle Town Ruins are located due south of Hyrule Castle in Hyrule Field. Before the second Great Calamity, Hyrule Castle Town was Hyrule Kingdom's largest city, serving as a shopping hub and travel destination.[2] The Central Square is located within the center of these Ruins. Like many of the surrounding areas, the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins are filled with destroyed buildings and desolate terrain that is covered in Malice. Six Pools of Malice, two in the east, two west and two at the central entrance to Central Square, can be removed by destroying their according Glowing Eyeballs, which makes later taking the Gerudo approach of entering Hyrule Castle, mentioned by Parcy, significantly easier. However, it's very difficult to achieve this without alarming close by Guardians so that there might not be much left to rush past on horseback.

There is little vegetation to be found except for Grass and, curiously, the occasional young tree. A Cooking Pot can be found in one of the Ruined Houses to the northwest, while another is located in East Castle Town.

A stone Treasure Chest containing a Purple Rupee can be found in the Ruined House to the southeast. A second stone Treasure Chest containing a Luminous Stone can be found in the Ruined House to the south. A third stone Treasure Chest containing a Purple Rupee can be found inside the tower that is surrounded by Malice in the road in the southwest. A fourth stone Chest containing a Sapphire can be found in a Ruined House in the west. A fifth stone Treasure Chest containing a Purple Rupee can be found in a Ruined House north of the previous Chest.

A Knight's Broadsword and Knight's Shield can be found on the Central Square fountain's south side and occasionally respawn if Link leaves the area. The fountain has four tablets in each of the cardinal directions, all of which read, “On this day the king opened this spring up to the public,” without ever giving an actual date. While the area is swarming with Guardians ever since Link awakens, Parcy implies that this is a recent development, as she used to enter the area while on her way to Hyrule Castle to search for treasure and valuable objects. However, once the Guardians appeared, approaching the town to reach the castle became too dangerous even for Parcy. This is further evidence the Guardians became more active as Zelda's seal on Calamity Ganon weakened and Ganon sensed Link had awoken, which is implied by multiple sources Link talks to about the subject.

Two Ancient Pillars where buried on the east and west sides of town which have since risen out of the ground, in response to Calamity Ganon's growing power and Link's activation of the Great Plateau Tower. A broken Guardian Stalker can be found on the town's east pillar though Link can only reach it by paragliding from the top of Hyrule Castle's Sanctum. Searching this Guardian will yield a random Guardian Part.

The Hyrule Castle Town Ruins reappear in Tears of the Kingdom. The Malice is now gone, and a memorial plaque dedicated to those who died in the Calamity has been placed near the square by Princess Zelda. Additionally, some ruined buildings are replaced by foundations on which Hudson Construction plans to construct new buildings.
